This is Eli’s version of crawling at nine months old; we are convinced he will go straight to walking soon.  His upper body strength is great; he’s already been climbing around on things even though he isn’t walking! Two days ago, he crawled up on Maddie’s little lunch table – completely up on it – by himself.  The lunch table, so that you know, is one of those trays that are often used for eating breakfast in bed.

As you may know, Wisconsin has seen record levels of snow this year.  As of last night, the total snowfall for the winter was 76.2″ and we’re only half-way through February!  Kate (my sister) sent me the photos below.  To read an article specific to this topic from the Milwaukee Journal Setinel, click here.

As you can see from the background of this photo – taken today – we have snow! Eli was rather happy watching Maddie play outside from the nice warm inside but I bet that deep down inside, he wanted to be out there too!

Last night, while watching Animal Planet, Maddie asked Lynn and I what kind of whale we were seeing on the television.  I told her it was a Sperm Whale.  She looked up at Lynn, reached out her hand that was holding her rubber toy lizard and said, “This is a sperm lizard you know.”

I have saved these two quotes from Maddie because I thought they were funny; now I finally have a place to keep them for all to enjoy!

12-29-2007 – After starting a Garth Brooks son on the i-Pod, Maddie asked me, “Is this another farmer song?”  (I told her earlier that day that Garth Brooks was a cowboy-song singer)

12-17-2007 – After calling the driver in front of me a “moron” (surprise) and then having to explain to Maddie that calling someone a “moron” is not nice, she says, “Well, Daddy, Momma calls them ‘womans.’”

After trying to explain to Maddie why it’s important for her to learn about God and Jesus, she said, “You and Momma can’t die because I will miss you.”  That was, of course, a sweet moment that I had to cherish but quickly recover from so that she could rest assured that we had no intentions of going anywhere any time soon.  She was OK with that.

To end the conversation in a typical “Maddie” fashion, she said, “You know Daddy, when you die, your nose falls off!”  Lynn and I both thoroughly enjoyed that one.

Flower by Maddie

Maddie has been working on her alphabet for quite some time and some of the letters are giving her troubles. “F” is one of those letters. Lynn has been working hard to find different ways to help Maddie learn her letters and one of the items she created was this flower…on “F” day. She clearly had some help with the green part but the purple part is all Maddie!
